White Mansion – Human (Album – Cold Transmission Music)
Genre/Influences: Rock-wave, dark-wave, wave-pop.
Format: Digital, CD.
Background/Info: White Mansion is a new
name active in the wider fields of dark-rock/wave & pop music. “Human” is
the band’s debut album, which has been released by the German label Cold
Transmission Music.
Content: “Human” is a pleasant and entertaining work. It’s the kind of music
reminding me of the 80s new-wave movement with this little extra ‘pop’ touch on
top. It reminds me of bands such as Lloyd Cole & The Commotions, Echo &
The Bunnymen and co. One of the band’s main characteristics is to find this
balance between guitar and electronics. The guitar injects the power, but still
the spirit while the synthesizer brings the melodic touch to the work.
+ + + : The opening songs are a little bit hesitant and maybe due to the rock influence, but quite progressively the true spirit of the 80s has been injected in the song writing. It creates a beautiful apotheosis at songs such as “Low Hum” and “Idol Changes”. This is not exactly the kind of dark music that will get you feel sad, but a dreamy dark trip with the 80s as sonic guide.
– – – : “Human” is not exactly
the kind of album that takes you by surprise. There’s nothing new on it, but as
I often say, I prefer a good album without that much originality instead of an
original work without substance!
Conclusion: White Mansion is a promising new band that will for sure
appeal for 80s new-wave lovers!
Best songs: “Low Hum”, “Idol Changes”, “Faded”, “Clear Your Head”.
