Inventing the internet has changed the whole world. Apart from making information available for everyone and augmenting globalization it also changes the labour market. Working 9 to 5 jobs, sitting in an office is not the only way to make money anymore. Anybody who has a computer and internet connection can set up an online business.

Internet business ideas with or without expertise

Most people like the idea of working from home on their own terms but are under the impression that you need a lot of capital to start a business or you need to be a professional in a certain area to make a living.

In this article, we have collected a few business ideas that only require a computer and some time; and a few that professionals can do freelance. Jacek Michałski, a Polish marketing expert in the field of iGaming helped us create this list. To read more about Jacek, click here.

Business ideas with no money

  • Blogging

With blogging the key is to create unique, engaging and somewhat a niche topic that will attract a lot of traffic. You can sign up on a free platform such as Blogger, or create your own website for a small fee. The way you make money with blogging is through advertisements. You can allow advertising networks, such as Google AdSense to place ads on your blog’s page and if the readers click on them you get paid.

The Polish language is spoken by 39 million people and it is not an easy language to learn. By creating blog content in Polish, you will not be competing against and English-speaking world. Speaking a unique language certainly qualifies as a niche in this sense.

  • Affiliate marketing

This method works similarly to blogging as you get paid through advertisement. You need to find a topic that you are familiar with and create content on that topic. You can then make this content available online through social media, email marketing or blogging and you describe a product that has a link to your affiliate partner’s website where the product can be purchased. If your reader buys this product you get a percentage of the sale. Affiliate marketing is often used with iGaming. You can read a casino review of YoYoCasino and there can be a link there directing you to the casino’s website.

  • Online video

You can make money with ads with your YouTube video content. It does not need to be a professional music video. People can watch tutorials on make-up, how to clean their camera sensors or how to make Thai green curry. All you need is a decent camera phone with working audio and good lighting and you can start uploading your videos.

  • Selling products on third-party platforms

Selling goods can be required to buy and store stocks. However, with drop shipping, you cut out these parts entirely. How it works is this: you advertise a product on platforms like Amazon or eBay. When somebody buys it from you, you find the product at a cheaper supplier, buy it from them and direct the shipping to your customer.

  • Selling e-products

You might have great photos or videos that you could sell on Shutterstock or ebooks such as an information booklet or a travel guide that you could sell on Amazon. How-to videos or interviews can be sold as well as courses.

Profitable online business ideas for professionals

If you are an expert in a certain field with experience behind you, you can set up very profitable online businesses. Some of these areas are:

  • Web design and web developing
  • App developing
  • SEO consultation
  • Business model consultation
  • Social media consultation
  • Virtual assistant
  • Creating digital courses
  • Life coaching
  • Technical writing
  • CV and cover letter writing
  • Startup company advising

Conclusion

Now, with unemployment on the rise because of coronavirus, it is a great time to start an online business. You can use the two lists above to determine which one is the best online business to start that suits your experience, expertise and amount of money you are willing to invest. Perhaps try more than one and see which one is the most enjoyable and profitable.

Since you’re here …

… we have a small favour to ask. More people are reading Side-Line Magazine than ever but advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news organisations, we haven’t put up a paywall – we want to keep our journalism as open as we can - and we refuse to add annoying advertising. So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

Side-Line’s independent journalism takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. But we do it because we want to push the artists we like and who are equally fighting to survive.

If everyone who reads our reporting, who likes it, helps fund it, our future would be much more secure. For as little as 5 US$, you can support Side-Line Magazine – and it only takes a minute. Thank you.
