Genre/Influences: Electro-wave, new-wave, experimental.

Background/Info: Set up in 1979 and driven by Morgan Bryan, ,X was active until 1989. They released several productions (mainly on their own label Dox Music) and once started with the 7-inch “Authors 2”. Peripheral Minimal brings this early record from 1982 back alive. Notice by the way the band seems to be active again.

Content: “Authors 2” features 3 songs. The title track is a typically old-school electro-new-wave experiment. Both cuts left are a bit different, less electro-like and driven by guitar.

+ + + : “Authors 2” became a kind of collector’s item so this new version will for sure catch the attention of 80s fans. The title song is an interesting cut reminding us early 80s electronics. Peripheral Minimal has a real passion to recover old and forgotten records from dust so this is for sure a discovery for numerous people.

– – – : “Authors 2” might have become a collector’s item, however it never became a record that entered into history. Both B-side cuts are suffering from the weight of time, but let’s not forget this work also was a kind of beginning for this artist.

Conclusion: If you’re a 80s nostalgic and you want to discover a somewhat forgotten artist, this “Authors 2”-vinyl might be something for you!

Best songs: “Authors 2”.

Inferno Sound Diaries
I have been working for over 30 years with Side-line as the main reviewer. My taste is eclectic, uncoventional and I prefer to look for the pearls, even if the bands are completely unknown, thus staying loyal to the Side-Line philosophy of nurturing new talents.

Since you’re here …

… we have a small favour to ask. More people are reading Side-Line Magazine than ever but advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news organisations, we haven’t put up a paywall – we want to keep our journalism as open as we can - and we refuse to add annoying advertising. So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

Side-Line’s independent journalism takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. But we do it because we want to push the artists we like and who are equally fighting to survive.

If everyone who reads our reporting, who likes it, helps fund it, our future would be much more secure. For as little as 5 US$, you can support Side-Line Magazine – and it only takes a minute. Thank you.
