Genre/Influences: Minimal-techno.

Background/Info: Adam Mitchell is one of those artists and sound producers who doesn’t often need to get introduced. This sound guru gained a wider international reputation with most of his projects and I here refer to Adam X, ADMX-71 and of course Traversable Wormhole. He’s also running the great Sonic Groove label. This new 12” is somewhat special as it’s the first Traversable Wormhole production released on Hospital Productions.

Content: The main characteristic of this project always has been the mix of techno music with sci-fi elements. It’s not that easy to recognize this approach although I can say that the work remains pretty minimal. The icy sound treatments and raw production process both create an atypical techno sound.

+ + + : Adam Mitchell remains a visionary artist who never stops to surprise me. I can’t say that both songs on this vinyl are the best exponents of his huge work, but it remains driven by this unique taste to bring different elements together and get the people dancing.

– – – : If you’re more into industrial music you for sure will prefer other projects of Adam Mitchell instead of Traversable Wormhole. It however remains a cool production, but I’m like missing a real climax.

Conclusion: Fans of Traversable Wormhole will for sure enjoy the new work of this legendary sound shaman, but it’s definitely not the best production he ever composed.

Best songs: “Semiclassical Gravity”.

Rate: (7).

I have been working for over 30 years with Side-line as the main reviewer. My taste is eclectic, uncoventional and I prefer to look for the pearls, even if the bands are completely unknown, thus staying loyal to the Side-Line philosophy of nurturing new talents.

Since you’re here …

… we have a small favour to ask. More people are reading Side-Line Magazine than ever but advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news organisations, we haven’t put up a paywall – we want to keep our journalism as open as we can - and we refuse to add annoying advertising. So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

Side-Line’s independent journalism takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. But we do it because we want to push the artists we like and who are equally fighting to survive.

If everyone who reads our reporting, who likes it, helps fund it, our future would be much more secure. For as little as 5 US$, you can support Side-Line Magazine – and it only takes a minute. Thank you.
