(Photo by Mick Peek) Influential UK post-punk band The Chameleons have today released “Tomorrow Remember Yesterday”, a new EP featuring re-recorded versions of some of their earliest songs. The release comes during a year of rejuvenated activity for the Manchester-based group, who recently returned with their first new music in over two decades.

The EP is available digitally via Metropolis Records, with a limited edition 12” vinyl available through Berlin’s Aufnahme+Wiedergabe, with select copies also sold via Metropolis mail order.

The Chameleons have revisited songs that predate their debut album, dusting off tracks written before their first John Peel session in 1981. Vocalist and bassist Mark Burgess explains that these songs were initially discarded due to feeling unfinished but have been re-recorded to reflect the band’s current musical identity.

“These were amongst the very earliest songs we got together, but were discarded at the time due to them feeling unfinished,” Burgess explains. “We revisited them to record versions that reflect who the band is now, not who we were in 1981. We’re thrilled with the results.”

Among the tracks of the EP is “The Fan and The Bellows”, a track once considered by CBS/Epic to be their debut single. However, the band rejected it in favor of the song “In Shreds”, a move Burgess stands by to this day. Another song, “Nostalgia”, also appears on the EP and provides the source for the EP’s title. Both tracks were originally recorded with producer Steve Lillywhite during sessions in the early ’80s but have now been given new life through these re-recordings.

“Tomorrow Remember Yesterday” serves as a precursor to The Chameleons’ new album “Arctic Moon”, set for release in 2025. It will be their first full-length studio album since “Why Call it Anything” in 2001.

The Chameleons have been busy with an extensive tour schedule in 2024. Following a successful run of dates in both the UK and the US earlier this year, the band will close out 2024 with seven UK and Irish dates in December.
