Genre/Influences: Experimental-techno, ambient-techno.

Background/Info: Steinklopfer is a Swiss producer operating from Zürich. “I Never Did It” is his solo-debut on a label he already knows from a previous EP released under the Us & Sparkles moniker.

Content: This project has been announced as quite different from his previous work. I noticed an interesting and somewhat experimental approach in mixing techno elements together with ambient atmospheres and experimental sonic treatments. The work reveals wafting sweeps and cracking noises carried by a slow danceable tempo.

The main strength of this work is all hidden in little sonic details like evasive sweeps and bleeping sequences. The tracks have been achieved by a fascinating progression avoiding the typical repetitive loops.

+ + + : The originality of the work based upon a great fusion of influences is absolutely successful. I like the elaborated and meticulous production.

– – – : I can’t affirm to have heard a kind of potential hit or dancefloor killer. “I Never Did It” is not exactly the kind of techno production that gone make you wild.

Conclusion: Steinklopfer reveals an interesting and mainly refreshing sound approach. The techno-ambient symbiosis is somewhat transcendental and definitely avant-garde minded.

Best songs: “Melodies (Original Mix)”, “Evenings – Original Mix”.

Rate: (7).

I have been working for over 30 years with Side-line as the main reviewer. My taste is eclectic, uncoventional and I prefer to look for the pearls, even if the bands are completely unknown, thus staying loyal to the Side-Line philosophy of nurturing new talents.

Since you’re here …

… we have a small favour to ask. More people are reading Side-Line Magazine than ever but advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news organisations, we haven’t put up a paywall – we want to keep our journalism as open as we can - and we refuse to add annoying advertising. So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

Side-Line’s independent journalism takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. But we do it because we want to push the artists we like and who are equally fighting to survive.

If everyone who reads our reporting, who likes it, helps fund it, our future would be much more secure. For as little as 5 US$, you can support Side-Line Magazine – and it only takes a minute. Thank you.
