Shifted – The Light Touch (Digital EP – Stroboscopic Artefacts)
Genre/Influences: Dark-techno, minimal-techno.
Background/Info: Guy Brewer aka Shifted is back on track, adding one more EP to his growing discography. I especially know the artist from his work released by Avian and Hospital Productions (where he released his last full length now 3 years ago). This work is also available as 12”.
Content: “The Light Touch” features 3 songs. The title track is a dark-technoid piece with a minimal EBM touch on top. A few extra sequences are progressively joining in. Both next pieces are moving on a similar way; featuring repetitive loops, cold sequences and a last cut ending in a transcendental sensation.
+ + + : The title song is cool song, which I especially like the dark sound treatments mixed with some minimalism. The song is pretty representative for the Shifted-sound. Both B-side cuts are less convincing although I like the trance flavor emerging from “Mixen”.
– – – : I remember previous releases from this producer, which were also featuring IDM influences. This is an aspect I’m missing here, Shifted becoming more techno orientated than before.
Conclusion: “The Light Touch” sounds cool, but is not exactly revealing the best side from this artist.
Best songs: “The Light Touch”, “Mixen”.

… we have a small favour to ask. More people are reading Side-Line Magazine than ever but advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news organisations, we haven’t put up a paywall – we want to keep our journalism as open as we can - and we refuse to add annoying advertising.
