Rhyw – Slithering (EP – Avian)
Genre/Influences: IDM, Techno, Experimental.
Format: Digital, Vinyl.
Background/Info: Welsh/Greek Techno DJ & producer Alex Tsiridis is based in Berlin and has already released different EP’s. He joined hands again with Avian, releasing his third EP on this label. The EP features five new cuts.
Content: Rhyw didn’t really change its sound formula. Both debut cuts are more sophisticated, clearly revealing IDM elements. The tracks are danceable and the loops are especially at the debut track evolving towards an approximate Trance effect. The B side is somewhat different, dealing with a clear Techno driven sound while the last cut sounds pretty experimental.
+ + + : I was deeply impressed by the production of both debut cuts. They reflect a real sound intelligence resulting from a creative process. The songs are sophisticated and yet accessible and ultra danceable. “Season Of Teeth” and “Salt Split Tongue” stands for the best side of this artist.
– – – : The B side is definitely for techno heads. I don’t have anything against techno, but these tracks are just less artistic and definitely more common-like.
Conclusion: I have some mixed feelings with this EP, but prefer to keep the great IDM approach in mind.
Best songs: “Salt Split Tongue”, “Season Of Teeth”.
