Ostara – Age Of Empire (Album – Trisol)
Genre/Influences: Neo-Folk, Chanson, Ballad.
Format: Digital, CD.
Background/Info: British Ostara has been active for more than twenty years and this year strikes back with their ninth full length album to date. Richard ‘Leviathan’ remains the single core member and driven force behind the project.
Content: Ostara moves on composing a kind of ‘good-feeling’ Neo-Folk music featuring a few more influences for the ride. There’s also a touch of Rock music, Chanson and Ballad style running through the songs.
+ + + : Ostara mixes different influences together so in the end it becomes a sweet, happy-sounding, and especially atypical Neo-Folk style. The lyrics are sometimes pretty engaged although the music remains easy and happy-like carried by passionate vocals. The choruses are quite catchy. I like “Troubadour Of Doom” which reminds me a bit of The Housemartins. Another recommended song is the Ballad-like “Germania”.
– – – : The songs remain pretty short while some pieces are maybe missing a bit more energy.
Conclusion: Ostara has something special which is hard to describe but easy to listen to.
Best songs: “Troubadour Of Doom”, “Germania”, “The Purge”, “Age Of Empire”.

Since you’re here …
… we have a small favour to ask. More people are reading Side-Line Magazine than ever but advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news organisations, we haven’t put up a paywall – we want to keep our journalism as open as we can - and we refuse to add annoying advertising. So you can see why we need to ask for your help.
Side-Line’s independent journalism takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. But we do it because we want to push the artists we like and who are equally fighting to survive.
If everyone who reads our reporting, who likes it, helps fund it, our future would be much more secure. For as little as 5 US$, you can support Side-Line Magazine – and it only takes a minute. Thank you.
