Genre/Influences: EBM.

Background/Info: Set up in 1992 Orange Sector received instant success during their first 90s period where they got signed to the legendary Zoth Ommog label. After a hiatus of a few years they struck back and progressively moved towards a successful second period, which has been characterized by solid and old-school minded EBM. This new records reveals 4 new songs and 4 remixes.

Content: Orange Sector remains faithful to their old-school EBM, which on “Im Stahlwerk” again illustrates the great skills of the band. It all sounds that simple and easy, but the songs are driven by this typical power emerging from the bass lines and the typical heavy cadence.

Singer Martin Bodewell is once more singing like a possessed soul while he also and clearly expresses some personal feelings about the dramatic terrorist assaults in Paris. I can’t say that Orange Sector is getting back to basics, but “Im Stahlkwerk” again is a solid piece of EBM that will appeal for the fans of D.A.F. The EP does not feature a single potential hit, but all the tracks have a real huge potential to find their place on the dancefloor.

Among the remixes there are 3 versions of the title song; one has been made by Nordarr while I personally like the “Clubstahl Mix”.

+ + + : Orange Sector knows the secret of how to make efficient EBM. The key to success is all in the power of the bass lines and cadence plus the charisma of the singer. You next can add a few great samplings (like on “Terroristen”) and some words during the chorus, which are easy to remember. Next you need a great mixing and global production and that’s precisely what this EP has been made of!

– – – : The remixes can’t really convince me in the same way. It just proves that the new songs are absolutely great!

Conclusion: Orange Sector holds on to their successful EBM sound formula; there’s no reason to change or innovate when you still can bring EBM heads to dance. This is the power of “Stahlwerk”!

Best songs: “Terroristen”, “Tanz In Den Frieden”, “Im Stahlwerk”, “Im Stahlwerk – Clubstahl Mix”.

Inferno Sound Diaries
I have been working for over 30 years with Side-line as the main reviewer. My taste is eclectic, uncoventional and I prefer to look for the pearls, even if the bands are completely unknown, thus staying loyal to the Side-Line philosophy of nurturing new talents.

Since you’re here …

… we have a small favour to ask. More people are reading Side-Line Magazine than ever but advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news organisations, we haven’t put up a paywall – we want to keep our journalism as open as we can - and we refuse to add annoying advertising. So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

Side-Line’s independent journalism takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. But we do it because we want to push the artists we like and who are equally fighting to survive.

If everyone who reads our reporting, who likes it, helps fund it, our future would be much more secure. For as little as 5 US$, you can support Side-Line Magazine – and it only takes a minute. Thank you.
