Brooklyn, NY band NoNight have a new single out today, “We Never Say Goodbye”, from their forthcoming album “NN3”. The synth pop based group features members of Mercury Rev, The Silent League, Sleep Maps and Pearl and The Beard.

About the single, NoNight explains: ““We Never Say Goodbye” is a synth power ballad about nostalgia and loss, a song Justin and I wrote about getting older and not seeing the people you love for long periods of time. The idea for the song started with the lyric ‘We never get as much time as we want’. There’s something universal about that line and how it applies to every age. Right now Justin and I have small kids and it felt like we were watching them grow too fast. I think this song was an attempt to reconcile the feeling and the reality of aging.”

The song was originally written on acoustic guitar, but after getting vocalist Tess Posner involved, the song morphed into the beat driven synth pop ballad you hear on the album.

The band recently shared the official video for lead single “Are You Out There?” as well.

NoNight was founded in Brooklyn, NY in 2013. A loose collective of artists held together by founding members Justin Russo (The Silent League, Mercury Rev) and Ben Kaplan (Sleep Maps, founder Lost Future Records), they have recorded two previous records focused on 80s synth pop with cinematic elements. For their new record the band is joined by singers Jeremy Lloyd-Styles (Pearl and the Beard) and Tess Posner.

“NN3” will be available digitally on January 24th, 2025 via Lost Future Records.

Since you’re here …

… we have a small favour to ask. More people are reading Side-Line Magazine than ever but advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news organisations, we haven’t put up a paywall – we want to keep our journalism as open as we can - and we refuse to add annoying advertising. So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

Side-Line’s independent journalism takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. But we do it because we want to push the artists we like and who are equally fighting to survive.

If everyone who reads our reporting, who likes it, helps fund it, our future would be much more secure. For as little as 5 US$, you can support Side-Line Magazine – and it only takes a minute. Thank you.
