Genre/Influences: Experimental, noise, industrial.

Format: Digital, CD.

Background/Info: My Right Of Frost is an Italian project active as a trio. They seem to be already busy for a couple of years now, but are releasing material on an irregular basis. This album features ten tracks and is packed in a 7” format.

Content: This trio seems to get back to the early 80s years of experimental music. It remains to be the so-called anti-music movement so it’s not that surprising that they mentioned a quote about the definition of music. All I can say is that this sonic experiment is mainly based upon the manipulation of sounds and the collage of sequences. An impressive arsenal of equipment has been used, but I especially want to mention the Theremin. Industrial passages can be heard while spoken Italian samplings have been  mixed now and then. The last cut is a bonus track that was recorded in 2018 during a live performance.

+ + + : The tracks aren’t just experimental-like, but also reveal a dark and exiting atmosphere. I also like the industrial parts of the work, which are mainly emerging at “So Much For Subtlety”. There’s less subtle work in  this kind of experiment although it all sounds ‘controlled’. I’m more enjoying some passages in a few tracks than the entire track properly. The live bonus cut is one of these cuts awakening my curiosity.

– – – : Most of the tracks sound pretty improvised and without any kind of structure. That’s why it all remains a very ‘extreme’ listening. This is the kind of production  that will reach a very restricted fanbase.

Conclusion: Music has no real limits and features endless styles and formats; I guess this anti-music experiment is also part of it!

Best songs: “Bonus Track: MROF & Episch Porzioni Live 11.12.18”, German Lady”,  “So Much For Subtlety”.

I have been working for over 30 years with Side-line as the main reviewer. My taste is eclectic, uncoventional and I prefer to look for the pearls, even if the bands are completely unknown, thus staying loyal to the Side-Line philosophy of nurturing new talents.

Since you’re here …

… we have a small favour to ask. More people are reading Side-Line Magazine than ever but advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news organisations, we haven’t put up a paywall – we want to keep our journalism as open as we can - and we refuse to add annoying advertising. So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

Side-Line’s independent journalism takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. But we do it because we want to push the artists we like and who are equally fighting to survive.

If everyone who reads our reporting, who likes it, helps fund it, our future would be much more secure. For as little as 5 US$, you can support Side-Line Magazine – and it only takes a minute. Thank you.
