Mental Exile – Exile Nights (Digital EP – Alfa Matrix)
Genre/Influences: Electro-pop.
Background/Info: Mental Exile is a new solo-project set up and driven by Damasius Venysthe (singer of Mondträume). This debut work reveals 6 songs -including 3 remixes.
Content: You easily and quite instantly will recognize the charismatic timbre of voice of Damasius Venysthe. The vocals are one of this project’s main characteristics. Sound-wise you can hear a strong 80s inspiration, but there also is a powerful and contemporary production injecting something personal to the work.
Remixes have been made from extra songs so you in the end get 6 different tracks. Vincenzo Salvia, Iversen and Index Code took care for the remixes. One of the remixes features female backing vocals by Lightshifters.
+ + + : Mental Exile has something personal I like. It remains electro-pop, but with a nice and successful mix between 80s influences and modern technology. “Midnight Rain” is a great piece of music illustration this sonic osmosis between past and present. The opening cut “One Of Us” is another remarkable song for the power emerging from the production. This EP also is a styled composition with great vocal parts on top. I even prefer Mental Exile instead of Mondtr äume.
– – – : This EP features several great cuts, but maybe not the ‘ultimate’ hit.
Conclusion: This is what I would call a promising debut so I’m really looking forward to welcome the debut album of this project.
Best songs: “Midnight Rain”, “One Of Us”, “Like Humans – Iversen Remix”.
