HI-LO presents his remix of Depeche Mode’s ‘Speak To Me’ – available now on Columbia Records
HI-LO’s remix for Depeche Mode’s “Speak To Me” is out since yesterday. The track is taken from Depeche Mode’s most recent album “Memento Mori”.
For his remix, HI-LO (real name Oliver Heldens) used the original melody as a base, building a thick wall of techno over the top alongside Dave Gahan’s signature vocals.
“It’s an absolute honor to do a remix for the iconic Depeche Mode, especially for such a special song like ‘Speak To Me’. The song felt very honest and real to me, so I tried my best to stay true to the original spirit but also put my own twist on it. I built around the vocals and the synth pads with a more melodic approach than the usual peak-time techno stuff I am producing but still incorporated some earth-shattering yet warm-sounding bass synths and some heavy drums to take it to a different realm. Thanks, Dave and Martin, for trusting my vision!,” HI-LO says

… we have a small favour to ask. More people are reading Side-Line Magazine than ever but advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news organisations, we haven’t put up a paywall – we want to keep our journalism as open as we can - and we refuse to add annoying advertising. So you can see why we need to ask for your help.
Side-Line’s independent journalism takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. But we do it because we want to push the artists we like and who are equally fighting to survive.
