Genre/Influences: Crossover, metal & electro.

Content: Helalyn Flowers has announced their 4th album “Sonic Foundation” for early 2016, but they already unleashed a kind of ‘shock’ teaser featuring two new songs and a collaboration with Chris Pohl.

I’ll start talking to you about the “Original Version” of “Beware Of Light”, which is a hard and unpolished piece of music mixing furious metal riffs together with electronic parts and the vocals of Noemi. I would say this is a rather familiar and powerful Helalyn Flowers song.

But the opening version featuring Chris Pohl (front man of Blutengel, Terminal Choice, Miss Construction) is a divine piece of music. There is a perfect osmosis between the power of Helalyn Flowers and the refinement of Blutengel while this fusion also comes through on the vocal parts. The duo Noemi and Chris reveals to be totally complementary and I would be not be surprised to hear Noemi one day singing on a Blutengel’s song. The song is powerful, but sensitive while into metal passages and yet polished by elevating electronic arrangements. The chorus is absolutely divine and like touched by the hand of God.

There also is a remix by XMH, which is considerably transforming the original song into a dance version, which might be interesting for clubs. But the version together with Chris Pohl is such a masterpiece it will be hard to find a DJ to play another version and/or remix.

The other new song is called “Karmageddon”, which reveals Helalyn Flowers under a heavy rock-metal sky. The song is achieved with the familiar electronic arrangements. It’s not bad, but nothing real sensational.

The song has been remixed by Psychic Force featuring DJ Michelle, but this is not exactly what I would call a major success. I personally prefer the remix by Aesthetische transposing the song into a refreshing electro-version, which sounds pretty ‘summer’-like.

Conclusion: It’s a pity this EP is only available as digital format as there are a few songs, which simply deserve to be released on CD format. This is such a shame although a good reason to join the digital platforms. The collaboration between Helalyn Flowers and Chris Pohl is total sound chemistry!

Best songs: “Beware Of Light feat. Chris Pohl”, “Beware Of Light – Original Version”.
