Hatif presents latest single ‘Broken Bucket’ ahead of new album
(Photo by Daniel Kwon) The Stockholm, Sweden-based duo Hatif has released its latest single “Broken Bucket”, now streaming on all major platforms via Town And Towers Records. The track marks the first release from the duo’s forthcoming sophomore album.
“Broken Bucket” is about conflict, loss, and perseverance and showcases Hatif’s signature dark electronic sound. You can watch a visualizer below.
Hatif was formed in 2020 by Markus Majdalani and Johan Eckerström. Their music blends dark electronic and industrial elements with influences from both post-punk and Middle Eastern traditions. The duo’s name, “Hatif”, is derived from Arabic, meaning a voice heard without a visible source, which aligns with their soundscapes.
Hatif’s music often explores themes of emotional tension, rebellion, and resistance, with their debut album “Everything Is Repetition” (2022) focusing on life’s cyclical nature, distance, and connection. Their latest work, including singles like “Broken Bucket” and “Disappear in Seoul”, shows an evolution toward a more raw, intense sound while maintaining their signature dark, introspective style.
The duo also collaborated with acts like Agent Side Grinder and released music under labels like ScentAir and Town And Towers Records. Hatif plans to release a full-length album in early 2025,
Since you’re here …
… we have a small favour to ask. More people are reading Side-Line Magazine than ever but advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news organisations, we haven’t put up a paywall – we want to keep our journalism as open as we can - and we refuse to add annoying advertising. So you can see why we need to ask for your help.
Side-Line’s independent journalism takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. But we do it because we want to push the artists we like and who are equally fighting to survive.
If everyone who reads our reporting, who likes it, helps fund it, our future would be much more secure. For as little as 5 US$, you can support Side-Line Magazine – and it only takes a minute. Thank you.
