Giirls – Time Of Glass (Digital/CD/Vinyl Album – Icy Cold Records)

Giirls is the solo project of French musician Brice Delourmel, who is also known for his work with Dead and Future. At the end of 2024, he returned with the second opus of Giirls, an 8-track album that feels like a time capsule transporting listeners back to the early 80s. The icy, vintage Electro soundscapes evoke a wealth of Cold-Wave nostalgia, with moments that resemble an Electro-infused version of The Cure. While the songs exude a chilly, atmospheric vibe, they simultaneously feel dreamy and haunting. The album concludes with an instrumental track whose melody carries echoes of Q. Lazzarus, leaving a lasting impression. Each track unfolds gradually, building toward an emotional climax. However, the album’s brevity -featuring just 8 tracks, leaves you wishing for more. This release solidifies Giirls as a project worth following for fans of moody, retro-inspired soundscapes. (Rating:7½).

… we have a small favour to ask. More people are reading Side-Line Magazine than ever but advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news organisations, we haven’t put up a paywall – we want to keep our journalism as open as we can - and we refuse to add annoying advertising. So you can see why we need to ask for your help.
Side-Line’s independent journalism takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. But we do it because we want to push the artists we like and who are equally fighting to survive.
If everyone who reads our reporting, who likes it, helps fund it, our future would be much more secure. For as little as 5 US$, you can support Side-Line Magazine – and it only takes a minute. Thank you.
