Frett – Nottwo (Album – Ant-Zen)
Genre/Influences: Electro-Industrial, Minimal-Electro.
Format: Digital, CD, Vinyl.
Background/Info: Two years after the excellent debut-album “The World As A Hologram” Frett struck back by the end of 2023 with nine new cuts. Frett is Polish artist Maciej Frett (involved with Job Karma) which in this new work has been inspired by the theme of ‘dualism’.
Content: The work takes off with a dark piece which makes me think of an Electronic version of Joy Division. Quite progressively Frett unleash analogue sound treatments, Industrial tones and dark atmospheres featuring now and then female-male vocal parts.
+ + + : The vintage sound treatments have this unique sound and magic which comes back in the work of Frett. It creates a minimal style exposed by impressive debut cuts “Duality”, “Body Mind” and “DNA”. The female vocals have a kind of sterile exposure which is perfectly fitting to the global sound approach reminding me of 80s productions -with this extra contemporary, refreshing, touch on top.
– – – : The best cuts are right at the beginning so the rest of the work is a little less exciting although still fully enjoyable.
Conclusion: I preferred the debut album to “Nottow” but however recommend listening to both productions.
Best songs: “Body Mind”, “Duality”, “DNA”, “Sleepless”.

Since you’re here …
… we have a small favour to ask. More people are reading Side-Line Magazine than ever but advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news organisations, we haven’t put up a paywall – we want to keep our journalism as open as we can - and we refuse to add annoying advertising. So you can see why we need to ask for your help.
Side-Line’s independent journalism takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. But we do it because we want to push the artists we like and who are equally fighting to survive.
If everyone who reads our reporting, who likes it, helps fund it, our future would be much more secure. For as little as 5 US$, you can support Side-Line Magazine – and it only takes a minute. Thank you.
