Genre/Influences: Techno, IDM.

Background/Info: Berlin based Denise Rabe has already released a few EP’s and DJ-mixes. This 12” features 2 new tracks plus 2 remixes.

Content: Welcome in the Berlin techno scene, which remains one of the most fascinating- and innovative underground scenes from avant-garde music. Denise Rabe stands for techno music with attitude and mixed with IDM-elements. Remixes have been made by Orphx and Nur Jaber (a Lebanese producer & DJ).

+ + + : I call this music ‘techno with attitude’ because of the intelligent and elaborated writing. It’s somewhat dark, bouncing and supported with a mysterious atmosphere. The remix of Lucy’s Dream” by Nur Jaber features some shimmering voices, only accentuating the mystery around the work.

– – – : This is cool music although I can’t say that there’s a ‘hit’ featured. I expected a bit more from the Orphx remix (probably because Orphx always releases exceptional work).

Conclusion: I for sure have heard more exciting techno productions from the Berlin school, but I’m sure Denise Rabe can improve her own level.

Best songs: “Lucy’s Dream – Nur Jaber Remix”, “Lucy’s Dream”.

Rate: (7).

I have been working for over 30 years with Side-line as the main reviewer. My taste is eclectic, uncoventional and I prefer to look for the pearls, even if the bands are completely unknown, thus staying loyal to the Side-Line philosophy of nurturing new talents.

Since you’re here …

… we have a small favour to ask. More people are reading Side-Line Magazine than ever but advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news organisations, we haven’t put up a paywall – we want to keep our journalism as open as we can - and we refuse to add annoying advertising. So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

Side-Line’s independent journalism takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. But we do it because we want to push the artists we like and who are equally fighting to survive.

If everyone who reads our reporting, who likes it, helps fund it, our future would be much more secure. For as little as 5 US$, you can support Side-Line Magazine – and it only takes a minute. Thank you.
