Genre/Influences: Minimal-electro, experimental-techno, acid, EBM.

Content: “Random Bass” is a sonic exploration between two Belgian artists. Ethan Fawkes is getting some name recognition in our beloved dark-electro & EBM scene while he also likes to experiment with technoid ingredients. That’s precisely what Danny Casseau has been doing for years. He’s a famous and recognized artist (producer, DJ, label owner) who released numerous releases under different names. We can say that this is the meeting between a rather experimental techno & acid artist on one side and a minimal-EBM & techno artist on the other side.

“Random Bass” is an offspring between techno and some industrial treatments. There’s an impressive industrial-like sequence running through this composition, which injects a rather icy touch. “Random Bass” is an interesting cut, which has been remixed by both artists.
Danny Casseau added some acid treatments to the original version.

This kind of techno music is pretty experimental especially because of the industrial-like sequence hanging over the track. The remix of Ethan Fawkes sounds totally different injecting diversity to the EP. He transposed “Random Bass” into a minimal EBM-orientated cut while he left the industrial sequence behind. I especially like the cool body-minded bass line.

A last remix was accomplished by Delectro (Diego Diaz) who’s gaining some recognition in the fields of minimal-EBM. That’s also the way he remixed “Random Bass” although I’m missing a climax at this remix.

Conclusion: “Random Bass” is an interesting exploration in diverse electronic fields featuring experimental techno music as a common element.

Best songs: “Random Bass – Ethan TBM Remix”.

I have been working for over 30 years with Side-line as the main reviewer. My taste is eclectic, uncoventional and I prefer to look for the pearls, even if the bands are completely unknown, thus staying loyal to the Side-Line philosophy of nurturing new talents.

Since you’re here …

… we have a small favour to ask. More people are reading Side-Line Magazine than ever but advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news organisations, we haven’t put up a paywall – we want to keep our journalism as open as we can - and we refuse to add annoying advertising. So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

Side-Line’s independent journalism takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. But we do it because we want to push the artists we like and who are equally fighting to survive.

If everyone who reads our reporting, who likes it, helps fund it, our future would be much more secure. For as little as 5 US$, you can support Side-Line Magazine – and it only takes a minute. Thank you.
