Cameraoscura – Quod Est Inferius (CD Album – Toten Schwan MMXIX)
Genre/Influences: Ambient, dark IDM, experimental, industrial.
Background/Info: I didn’t find that much info about this Italian project. It all seems like “Quod Est Inferius” is the duo’s debut work.
Content: The basis of the work is clearly ambient-inspired. The songs are dark, sometimes moving into an industrial approach, but next becoming more elaborate and even technoid. From IDM to industrial, the global atmosphere hanging over this work is sometimes enigmatic and a bit frightening. The tracks are instrumentals except “Interitus” featuring spooky, whispering voices.
+ + + : This is a pure minimal composition, which I like for its diversity and global sound intelligence. The previously mentioned “Interitus” is a true masterpiece, but I also have to mention “v.i.t.r.i.o.l.”, “Admirio” and “Ultima Necat”. The slow rhythms carrying the tracks made it all very accessible. I had a crush on this album, which is also featuring a cool artwork (digipak).
– – – : Cameraoscura clearly doesn’t compose the most accessible work, but it will be pleased by fine tasters.
Conclusion: This is an interesting newcomer, which we better can keep in mind. This is an interesting and intelligent ambient format!
Best songs: “Interitus”, “v.i.t.r.i.o.l.”, “Admirio”, “Ultima Necat”.
