Bvdub – Ten Times The World Lied (Album – Glacial Movements)

Background/Info: Brock Van Wey is already active for years now in the music business. He got involved in lots of very different projects, but in the last few years he’s mainly released his work under the Bvdub moniker. He’s a prolific artist who releases his work on different labels and now moves back to Glacial Movements.
Content: Listening to this album is comparable to watching a movie. Bvdub invites the listener to visit his sonic cinema, a platform where images have been transposed into sounds. The music creates an astral dimension with the bleeping sound treatments, but also by the global atmosphere recovering the work. Brock Van Wey ‘plays’ with ambient music like a child would play and play again with its favorite toy. It creates diversity in the tracklist –while there’s less diversity in the titles of the track. It all sounds like every single detail is part of this instrumental work and still part of the concept.
+ + + : The tracks have been meticulously elaborated and especially the progression is one of the most noticeable elements of the production. I like some of the most evasive parts of the work, but I have to admit I have a real preference for the colder passages. The opening track (cf. “Not Yours To Build”) is a pretty cool cut illustrating the approach of Bvdub. But my absolute favorite track is “Not Yours To Know” for the addition of some extra, little sounds.
– – – : Some parts are too similar and there’s not enough variety. That’s precisely why “Not Yours To Know” is my favorite cut; it brings something extra.
Conclusion: I can’t say this album is my all time favorite from Bvdub, but the question is if there’s really one favorite album. This is one more work in addition to the already impressive discography of this artist.
