Black Lung – Depopulate (EP – Ant-Zen)
Genre/Influences: Minimal-Electro, Dark-Techno.
Format: Digital, Vinyl.
Background/Info: Australian sound guru David Thrussell strikes back with new Black Lung work -and that was a quite a while ago now he released new work of this project which was now set up thirty years ago; “Depopulate” has been released as vinyl featuring three songs while the digital format features two extra cuts.
Content: Both debut cuts are more into Minimal-Electro vein; driven by slow but heavy rhythms and supported by dreamy, Ambient-like strings. Thrussell’s voice sounds like a ghost repeating the same, minimal, lyrics. We next move towards harder, dark, Techno driven cuts while the last cut sounds more Experimental.
+ + + : Both debut cuts (cf. “Euthanasia” and “Depopulate”) remind us of the genius of this artist. This is David Thrussell at his best mixing different but related Electronic elements together to obtain a very own sound and style.
– – – : Both Techno cuts aren’t bad at all and can for sure be played at Berliner clubs but I prefer the more sophisticated debut side of the EP.
Conclusion: Black Lung is back on track unleashing a work with two different sides but especially a great Minimal-Electro side.
Best songs: “Euthanasia”, “Depopulate”.
Rate: 8.

Since you’re here …
… we have a small favour to ask. More people are reading Side-Line Magazine than ever but advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news organisations, we haven’t put up a paywall – we want to keep our journalism as open as we can - and we refuse to add annoying advertising. So you can see why we need to ask for your help.
Side-Line’s independent journalism takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. But we do it because we want to push the artists we like and who are equally fighting to survive.
If everyone who reads our reporting, who likes it, helps fund it, our future would be much more secure. For as little as 5 US$, you can support Side-Line Magazine – and it only takes a minute. Thank you.
