Apple Music users can now track their top songs, albums, and artists via Apple Music Replay 2023.  The feature, which allows Apple Music users to track their top songs, albums, and artists, is available now, as opposed to Spotify Wrapped, which is released in December.

Users can check out their Apple Music Replay 2023 playlist via the “Listen Now” tab on the Apple Music app. The feature has been optimized for sharing on social media, aiming to capitalize on the success of Spotify Unwrapped. The top 100 most-played songs will feature along with a range of stats available on the dedicated Apple Music Replay website.

Apple Music Replay was launched in 2019 as a response to Spotify Wrapped, the viral marketing campaign which first appeared in 2016, but failed to find traction among users. In 2022, the Replay experience was revamped and now the live listening statistics will update each week.

How entertainment sites get you to extend your stay

Apple also gives users the chance to discover new music through its app via the radio feature which showcases local broadcasters, the search function, which highlights various music genres, and if you search for your favorite artist such as Snoop Dogg, you will be provided with a list of similar artists such as Tha Dogg Pound, Daz Dillinger, and The Game.

Other entertainment sectors also use novel ways to introduce people to new products and services. For example, in the iGaming sector, industry operators try to drum up interest in casino games through how-to-play guides. Blackjack guides are just one example of how industry operators help to draw a player’s attention to games. These guides to traditional card games have a dual function, they introduce players to the basic rules of new games and provide strategies on how to approach the game in practice.

Inspired by the binge-watching craze

In the highly competitive streaming services sector, which admittedly will be reduced by one this year when the streaming operators Showtime and Paramount+ merge, a major task is to introduce viewers to new content by using various strategies. On Netflix, the Series and Film sections present viewers with a preview of a popular show. Current recommendations include the basketball documentary The Last Dance and the horror flick Come Play. While the New & Popular section presents the latest content from a wide variety of TV and movie genres.

Another tactic used by streaming services to prolong your stay on their platform is to tap into the binge-watching craze by automatically loading in the next episode of a series or documentary or suggesting another similar movie. Viewers are also catered to via a wide range of guides for shows to binge-watch.

Always looking for an advantage over its competitors, the entertainment industry is constantly developing new concepts and features to encourage users to visit its platforms and spend time on the site. Apple Music Replay 2023 is just the latest instrument in the battle for our attention in the music streaming sector, but will certainly not be the last.

Since you’re here …

… we have a small favour to ask. More people are reading Side-Line Magazine than ever but advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news organisations, we haven’t put up a paywall – we want to keep our journalism as open as we can - and we refuse to add annoying advertising. So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

Side-Line’s independent journalism takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. But we do it because we want to push the artists we like and who are equally fighting to survive.

If everyone who reads our reporting, who likes it, helps fund it, our future would be much more secure. For as little as 5 US$, you can support Side-Line Magazine – and it only takes a minute. Thank you.
