Genre/Influences: Electro-pop.

Background/Info: “Brother” is an appropriated title-track to close the homage to Metroland’s ‘Passenger L’ aka Louis Zachert. The song is taken from Metroland’s third full length “Things Will Never Sound The Same Again”, which has been entirely inspired and devoted to ‘Brother Louis’ who passed away in 2015.

Content: “Brother” was for sure one of the best cuts of the album. This EP features 2 ‘reworked’ versions of “Brother”, which for the first one remains pretty ‘Kraftwerk’-pop like and for the second one more into bombastic- and EBM arrangements.

Two remixes have been made and I here especially want to mention the one by Axel Kleintjes (Page 12, Cycloon, The Amp, Megadump, Cyber Axis) who has worked with Louis in the past. The other remix has been accomplished by a ‘remix contest winner’ Restriction 9.

The EP also features a new song called “See You”, which also is linked to the concept of the album. This is another great cut written by Metroland, which again sounds pretty retro-like and achieved with some alluring EBM bass line.

+ + + : “Brother” is for sure my favorite EP from the 3 EP’s that was taken from their last album and the “Sole Mix” is a great version. It not only is a great title song –and also one of the most danceable ones of the album, but this release also features a solid B-side track.

– – – : The remixes are not exactly adding a real bonus to the original versions. I think we here could have expected something more.

Conclusion: I think there was no better ode to Passenger L who I remember as a real humble, kind and talented artist than seeing his Metroland mates giving him this homage. And I can imagine that where Louis is, he will like to see people dancing to a song devoted to his soul.

Best songs: “Brother – Sole Mix”, “See You”.

I have been working for over 30 years with Side-line as the main reviewer. My taste is eclectic, uncoventional and I prefer to look for the pearls, even if the bands are completely unknown, thus staying loyal to the Side-Line philosophy of nurturing new talents.

Since you’re here …

… we have a small favour to ask. More people are reading Side-Line Magazine than ever but advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news organisations, we haven’t put up a paywall – we want to keep our journalism as open as we can - and we refuse to add annoying advertising. So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

Side-Line’s independent journalism takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. But we do it because we want to push the artists we like and who are equally fighting to survive.

If everyone who reads our reporting, who likes it, helps fund it, our future would be much more secure. For as little as 5 US$, you can support Side-Line Magazine – and it only takes a minute. Thank you.
