The Swedish duo System from Stockholm emerged over 20 years ago and now returns with their first new album since 2011. Herr A and Herr C stay true to their original sound and roots, delivering a retro yet fresh production that is sure to delight fans of Kraftwerk and other Robotic-Pop music. While Kraftwerk undeniably serves as a major influence, what stands out is the duo’s ability to transform this inspiration into a highly personal and distinctive work. The opening tracks are simply brilliant, featuring minimalist soundscapes and intelligent arrangements, enhanced by robotic vocal effects. At times, the album ventures into Experimental territory, but it quickly re-centers on its core strengths. Although a few tracks feel slightly repetitive or less inventive, the album as a whole remains an extremely enjoyable listen. As a bonus, an extra disc is included, featuring one extra new song and four remixes. Among these, the EBM-inspired and exceptionally well-crafted remix by Elm stands out, as does Celldöd’s smart, club-oriented rework. These additions bring substantial value to the release. It’s truly exciting to see System active again, and this album is a testament to their enduring creativity and skill. (Rating:8½).

Inferno Sound Diaries
I have been working for over 30 years with Side-line as the main reviewer. My taste is eclectic, uncoventional and I prefer to look for the pearls, even if the bands are completely unknown, thus staying loyal to the Side-Line philosophy of nurturing new talents.

Since you’re here …

… we have a small favour to ask. More people are reading Side-Line Magazine than ever but advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news organisations, we haven’t put up a paywall – we want to keep our journalism as open as we can - and we refuse to add annoying advertising. So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

Side-Line’s independent journalism takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. But we do it because we want to push the artists we like and who are equally fighting to survive.

If everyone who reads our reporting, who likes it, helps fund it, our future would be much more secure. For as little as 5 US$, you can support Side-Line Magazine – and it only takes a minute. Thank you.
