“Rhetoric & Terror” is the all new album from Nonpareils aka Aaron Hemphill (Liars co-founder) which is out 20 September via Mute. Available now is the new track “Predictable Pan (Theme From A Book Of Perfectly Drawn Lines)” taken from this album.

“Rhetoric & Terror” is Berlin-based Hemphill’s second album since leaving Liars back in 2016. The album has his wife Angelika Kaswalder on vocals throughout the album and multi-instrumentalist Morgan Henderson – a longtime friend of Hemphill’s since Henderson’s time in the post-hardcore band The Blood Brothers – adding woodwind.

Aaron Hemphill explains the album like this: “With ‘Rhetoric & Terror’, I wanted to start with emotions and feeling. I was playing with my kids, listening to Cocteau Twins, I have a wonderful partner, and it seemed very contrary to any sort of growth to sequester myself from this life in order to get into character as a musician. Instead, I tried to remove the boundaries between my creative life and my responsibilities and have it all be one fluid thing. All things at all times, and trust that this will guide my music rather than more intellectual concepts or limitations.”

“Rhetoric & Terror” will be out on Mute on vinyl, CD and digitally on 20 September 2024.

Here’s the previous released track, “Opening Chord”.

Since you’re here …

… we have a small favour to ask. More people are reading Side-Line Magazine than ever but advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news organisations, we haven’t put up a paywall – we want to keep our journalism as open as we can - and we refuse to add annoying advertising. So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

Side-Line’s independent journalism takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. But we do it because we want to push the artists we like and who are equally fighting to survive.

If everyone who reads our reporting, who likes it, helps fund it, our future would be much more secure. For as little as 5 US$, you can support Side-Line Magazine – and it only takes a minute. Thank you.
