Pleasure Victim announces new LP ‘Hypnovisions’ – Out on vinyl only
(Photo by Pleasure Victim) On July 13, 2024, the debut LP of the Berlin duo Pleasure Victim will be released on the Swiss label 1:2:8. Titled “Hypnovisions” (named after a line from the song “Telecult Power,” which appears in two versions on the album), the album is both a debut and a best-of collection of material the band recorded since 2019. The album will be released in a limited edition on vinyl only; no downloads, no streams, no CD, no cassette.
Below is the artwork for “Pleasure Victim” which presents a night-time urban scene with a Trabant parked on the street. It doesn’t take much to be thrown back into the late 1970s or early 1980s. Also the font style used is reminiscent of retro signage.
Musician Jonas Heyn and singer Uwe Marx have been working together since 2019, making the band the unofficial successor to the minimal electronic pioneers Bakterielle Infektion. Their sound is a unique mix of post-punk, EBM, and darkwave with a subtle use of guitars. The entire album was recorded on vintage equipment from the late ’70s and early ’80s, creating a synthetic, very ’80s-influenced sound.
In 2020, their debut 7” single “Stadt aus Glas” was released on the Canadian label Nancy Records. Below is the B-side to that single, “Far Away”.
Additionally, one of the band’s tracks will also be featured this summer on a lavish 6CD box set, “Cold Wave Post Punk Resurgence 1.” More news on that compilation will be shared later.
The record release concert will take place on July 13th at the Slaughterhouse in Berlin. In addition to Pleasure Victim, Paradox Sequenz and Schwund (both from Berlin) will also be performing live on stage.
Since you’re here …
… we have a small favour to ask. More people are reading Side-Line Magazine than ever but advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news organisations, we haven’t put up a paywall – we want to keep our journalism as open as we can - and we refuse to add annoying advertising. So you can see why we need to ask for your help.
Side-Line’s independent journalism takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. But we do it because we want to push the artists we like and who are equally fighting to survive.
If everyone who reads our reporting, who likes it, helps fund it, our future would be much more secure. For as little as 5 US$, you can support Side-Line Magazine – and it only takes a minute. Thank you.
