Ajna – Inevitable Mortality (Album – Zoharum)
Genre/Influences: Dark-Ambient, Cinematic.
Format: Digital, 2CD.
Background/Info: “Ajna” originally released this album in 2016 featuring six tracks. It was released by reverse Alignment as a strictly limited CDR format. The work has been now re-released featuring an extra disc with six more cuts originally written in the same period of the work.
Content: The original work stands for an overwhelming dark sound creating a sonic mayhem that comes immediately through. The tracks are progressively built up, often without that much variation but creating an obscure, tenebrous, vision by the listener. The 6 extra cuts are quite comparable in approach and mood but accentuated by more explicit field recordings.
+ + + : The opening part of the work still has this tremendous sensation mainly coming through at the title track and “Un Unknown Visitor”. The dark mood creates a sensation of deep, despair which is accentuated by a few, ghost-like, spoken passages. This is an album I recommend listening to by using headphones to notice the very few, but essential, sonic details joining in.
– – – : The bonus disc is a nice gift for the Ajna-addicts but doesn’t bring the best cuts.
Conclusion: It all feels like the original work hasn’t been affected by the weight of time. This is an opportunity to (re)discover a cool work by Ajna.
Best songs: “An Unknown Visitor”, “Inevitable Mortality”, “At The End” + “A Tragic Landscape II – Deeper Solitude”.

Since you’re here …
… we have a small favour to ask. More people are reading Side-Line Magazine than ever but advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news organisations, we haven’t put up a paywall – we want to keep our journalism as open as we can - and we refuse to add annoying advertising. So you can see why we need to ask for your help.
Side-Line’s independent journalism takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. But we do it because we want to push the artists we like and who are equally fighting to survive.
If everyone who reads our reporting, who likes it, helps fund it, our future would be much more secure. For as little as 5 US$, you can support Side-Line Magazine – and it only takes a minute. Thank you.
