Genre/Influences: Experimental, Technoid, Industrial.

Format: Digital, Vinyl.

Background/Info:  “Dimensional Research” is the second album by Joey Gonzalez released in 2023. The work has been released by the brand-new Latvian label Kontaktor Records.

Content: The previous album “Neuroscape” already revealed a more Experimental approach while holding onto a Dark- and Industrial driven Techno basis. This work moves on a step further by creating a kind of Experimental chaos featuring fragmented vocals effects mixed with multiple noises and other analogue sound effects.

+ + + : Joey Gonzalez is definitely exploring different and less accessible sonic paths. He however remains a true sound architect creating his modular sounds and noises with a true passion and devotion for the ‘beauty’ of the sound. This way Blush Response has developed a very own sound you can’t compare to any other artist. I however prefer the more ‘accessible’ side of the album featured at the more minimal sounding pieces “Dimensional Research” and “Solar Warden”. I also like the harder sounding “Predatory Algorithms” reflecting a kind of controlled sonic chaos.

– – – : This album isn’t exactly the most accessible work from Blush Response; it’s a kind of structured chaos that will appeal for analogue sound operators.

Conclusion: Visionary Experimental music at the edge of Industrial-Techno.

Best songs: “Dimensional Research”, “Solar Warden”, “Predatory Algorithms”, “Supermembrane”.

Rate: 7.

Inferno Sound Diaries
I have been working for over 30 years with Side-line as the main reviewer. My taste is eclectic, uncoventional and I prefer to look for the pearls, even if the bands are completely unknown, thus staying loyal to the Side-Line philosophy of nurturing new talents.

Since you’re here …

… we have a small favour to ask. More people are reading Side-Line Magazine than ever but advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news organisations, we haven’t put up a paywall – we want to keep our journalism as open as we can - and we refuse to add annoying advertising. So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

Side-Line’s independent journalism takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. But we do it because we want to push the artists we like and who are equally fighting to survive.

If everyone who reads our reporting, who likes it, helps fund it, our future would be much more secure. For as little as 5 US$, you can support Side-Line Magazine – and it only takes a minute. Thank you.
