Handful Of Snowdrops 1988 album ‘Land of the Damned’ reissued with 6 bonus tracks
Out later this month via Twilight Records is a reissue of the legendary debut album by the Canadian darkwave act Handful Of Snowdrops. The debut from this Québec-based band will be available on CD for the first time in nearly 15 years.
Handful Of Snowdrops were originally active between 1984 and 1993 and released 3 albums, before they dismantled. In 2015 the band re-united in reduced format, and released the album “III”, that was followed by another two albums and a number of singles and Eps.
This reissue contains not only all original album tracks (from the 1988 release out on the short-lived Montreal independent label LiSP Records) in newly re-mastered sound quality, but also 6 additional demo tracks, including 2 never-before-released demos from the very early days (1985) of the band: “Face to Face” and “The Keep”.
The tracks on this album find their origins in 1986 when the band (Michel Mercier, Jean-Pierre Mercer, Christian Lefebvre and Michel Plamondon) recorded a four-track demo, containing what would to become their most famous song, “Gabrielle”. These four tracks were the basis for their debut album “Land of the Damned”. Their editor would later take this recording to New York City, where he met with Woodrow Dumas of Louisiana’s C’est La Mort Records (Controlled Bleeding, Area), who offered to re-release “Land of the Damned” in the U.S. two years later.

Since you’re here …
… we have a small favour to ask. More people are reading Side-Line Magazine than ever but advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news organisations, we haven’t put up a paywall – we want to keep our journalism as open as we can - and we refuse to add annoying advertising. So you can see why we need to ask for your help.
Side-Line’s independent journalism takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. But we do it because we want to push the artists we like and who are equally fighting to survive.
If everyone who reads our reporting, who likes it, helps fund it, our future would be much more secure. For as little as 5 US$, you can support Side-Line Magazine – and it only takes a minute. Thank you.
