Saurien – And Still The Lungs Won’t Fill (Album – Anywave)
Genre/Influences: Industrial.
Format: Digital, Cassette.
Background/Info: This is the first (mini)-album by French formation Saurien. The band was previously featured at compilations and now delivers seven tracks.
Content: This band brings a raw and Industrial-driven sound. Heavy, repetitive, loops carried by solid guitar reminds me an imaginary hybrid between legendary 80s formations Big Black and Sonic Youth.
+ + + : This retro-sound has something powerful and original. The guitar play creates a heavy, Industrial, exposure which is raw, unpolished and merciless. Guitar, rhythms and vocals create an exploding cocktail with “Ghost” as true apotheosis.
– – – : This is solid debut which has to be elaborated but globally speaking this is a great record. I only hope this band will reach a wider audience of Industrial-minded fans.
Conclusion: Back to the glorious days of Industrial-Rock music. This is a band to keep an eye on.
Best songs: “Ghost”, “Look Around”, “Anguish Knot”.
Rate: 7½.

Since you’re here …
… we have a small favour to ask. More people are reading Side-Line Magazine than ever but advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news organisations, we haven’t put up a paywall – we want to keep our journalism as open as we can - and we refuse to add annoying advertising. So you can see why we need to ask for your help.
Side-Line’s independent journalism takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. But we do it because we want to push the artists we like and who are equally fighting to survive.
If everyone who reads our reporting, who likes it, helps fund it, our future would be much more secure. For as little as 5 US$, you can support Side-Line Magazine – and it only takes a minute. Thank you.
