Genre/Influences: Indie-Pop, Pop-Rock, Wave-Pop.

Format: Digital, CD, Vinyl.

Background/Info: American formation Jupe Jupe has been active since 2010 and this year unleashed their sixth full-length album to date. This is the first work which has been released by a label.

Content: Jupe Jupe holds on their familiar sound ingredients and influences; the songs remain driven by a blend of Indie-Pop and Pop-Rock with extra 80s Wave elements on top. They now and then remind me of The Style Council but globally speaking this album reveals a very personal approach in sound. The saxophone play injects a warm touch to the production.

+ + + : Compared to their previous works this album reveals a serious improvement in song writing and production. The opus is progressively growing revealing its best part at “Open Door”, “Perfect Day To Die” and “Horroshow”. The main strength of these songs is the catchy, elevating chorus.

– – – : I’m a bit skeptical about the opening cuts leaving me rather unmoved. So you have to be patient to discover the true potential of the work.

Conclusion: Definitely the best album I’ve heard from Jupe Jupe and which will catch the attention of a wider audience.

Best songs: “Horrorshow”, “Open Door”, “Perfect Day To Die”, “Secondhand Star”.

Rate: 7.

Inferno Sound Diaries
I have been working for over 30 years with Side-line as the main reviewer. My taste is eclectic, uncoventional and I prefer to look for the pearls, even if the bands are completely unknown, thus staying loyal to the Side-Line philosophy of nurturing new talents.

Since you’re here …

… we have a small favour to ask. More people are reading Side-Line Magazine than ever but advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news organisations, we haven’t put up a paywall – we want to keep our journalism as open as we can - and we refuse to add annoying advertising. So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

Side-Line’s independent journalism takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. But we do it because we want to push the artists we like and who are equally fighting to survive.

If everyone who reads our reporting, who likes it, helps fund it, our future would be much more secure. For as little as 5 US$, you can support Side-Line Magazine – and it only takes a minute. Thank you.
