Joxfield Projex & Colonel XS – What About Me? (CD Album – Santos Productions)
Genre/Influences: Experimental, apocalyptic-rock.
Content: “What About Me?” is the meeting between two experimental artists who can look back on an impressive discography. However, despite their discography, I guess that Joxfield Projex and Colonel XS mainly remain unknown to a wider audience.
The album features 4 long duration tracks. Both artists are pure sound manipulators creating dark sound platforms. It is as if they are torturing sounds to obtain a very own and unique sound color. They don’t hesitate to use guitar sounds as well, but the final sound is more important than really playing an instrument. This way “What About Me?” invites us to join on a mysterious trip, which is hard to grasp.
There’s a strong and oppressive apocalyptic sound resulting from this collaboration. It sometimes reminds me a bit to the anarchistic formula invented by Throbbing Gristle. The sound is raw, avoiding any compact music format and sometimes appearing to be a wild improvisation. The debut part is more into pure experimentalism while the two last songs reveal the apocalyptic approach in sound.
Conclusion: An extreme fusion in sound based upon multiple sonic manipulations resulting in a quite diversified experimental album.
Best songs: “A Huge Waste Of Time”, “Invaluable Moments 2”.

Since you’re here …
… we have a small favour to ask. More people are reading Side-Line Magazine than ever but advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news organisations, we haven’t put up a paywall – we want to keep our journalism as open as we can - and we refuse to add annoying advertising. So you can see why we need to ask for your help.
Side-Line’s independent journalism takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. But we do it because we want to push the artists we like and who are equally fighting to survive.
If everyone who reads our reporting, who likes it, helps fund it, our future would be much more secure. For as little as 5 US$, you can support Side-Line Magazine – and it only takes a minute. Thank you.
