Background/Info: Chivvy is a Swedish formation, which was previously active under the name, The Tape. This year they released their self-titled debut album featuring ten songs.
Content: “Chivvy” is a dreamy production, which clearly reminds me of Dream-Pop. It has been accentuated by the fragile and passionate female vocals.
The songs have been progressively built up.
+ + + : The production of the vocals is an essential aspect of the production. The fragile timbre of voice merged with pure passion perfectly fits the Dream-Pop approach of this band. Sound-wise the guitar playing injects a true melancholic taste. Songs like “Melatonin” and “Red Water” both are noticeable cuts, but I especially recommend “Coexist” for its elevating effect.
– – – : This is an honest debut, but is missing a true apotheosis.
Conclusion: “Chivvy” is an invitation to dream away throughout melancholic corridors of sound.
