Genre/Influences: Cinematographic, Experimental.

Format: Digital, Vinyl.

Background/Info: Belgian duo Dominique Vantomme – Toon Bosschaert are experienced musicians who set up Boshaard. This album is their common debut work featuring seven tracks.

Content: The self-titled album sounds like a challenge and an interesting experiment. They mixed piano and Electronics. The result is a somewhat alternative and/or Avant-Garde edit of Cinematographic music. The songs are progressively evolving from a rather classical-orientated piano play towards an Electronic apotheosis.

+ + + : The production has something original, a kind of visionary Cinematographic sound to support a visual work. It also is a true challenge to bring opposites together, but Boshaard seems to prove we’re often driven by prejudices. Classical piano and Electronics can live in perfect harmony or simply become complementary. That’s why I like the track “Gavers Part 1 & 2”. But I can also enjoy the more Neo-Classical “Per” reminding me of the Pierre Henry sphere.

– – – : Challenges and experiments aren’t always the most accessible formats; so this is an album you really have to listen a few times to get into the intimate sphere.

Conclusion: Boshaard might be defined as a further vision of Cinematographic music.

Best songs: “Gavers Part 1 & 2”, “Per”.

Inferno Sound Diaries
I have been working for over 30 years with Side-line as the main reviewer. My taste is eclectic, uncoventional and I prefer to look for the pearls, even if the bands are completely unknown, thus staying loyal to the Side-Line philosophy of nurturing new talents.

Since you’re here …

… we have a small favour to ask. More people are reading Side-Line Magazine than ever but advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news organisations, we haven’t put up a paywall – we want to keep our journalism as open as we can - and we refuse to add annoying advertising. So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

Side-Line’s independent journalism takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. But we do it because we want to push the artists we like and who are equally fighting to survive.

If everyone who reads our reporting, who likes it, helps fund it, our future would be much more secure. For as little as 5 US$, you can support Side-Line Magazine – and it only takes a minute. Thank you.
