Franck Vigroux – Matériaux (EP – Eroto Tox Decodings)
Genre/Influences: Industrial, Experimental.
Format: Digital, Vinyl.
Background/Info: Franck Vigroux strikes back with a new EP featuring ten tracks. “Matériaux” is the second work he ever released on the American label Eroto Tox Decodings.
Content: The last year released album “Ballades Sur Le Lac Gelé” revealed one of the most accessible works by Vigroux. “Matériaux” already reveals a different sound although accomplished with recognizable elements and influences. The French artist deals again with a more Experimental style, decomposing and recomposing sounds and noises. There’s a rather constant Industrial touch running through the tracks. The album seems to have been conceived as a kind of Cinematographic composition, featuring numerous pretty short tracks.
+ + + : Franck Vigroux did it again; exploring new paths although quite familiar ones. But this EP is pretty different from his previous album. It’s an Experimental release, but with a solid Industrial approach. This Industrial approach is driven towards a true exploding effect at some tracks. These cuts are my favorites, but especially the last track “Matériaux X” is an attention grabber. Another great cut is “Matériaux XIII”, which next to the heavy sound treatments reveals a pretty cold atmosphere. This work sounds more like having been composed as the music component of a wider artistic creation/concept.
– – – : Franck Vigroux remains an Industrial sound wizard, but his experimental side is not my favorite one. This work definitely needs to be supported by visual works –and vice versa.
Conclusion: This work reminds us of the ‘free’ Experimental and artistic side of the artist. But Franck Vigroux is much more than this…
Best songs: “Matériaux X”, “Matériaux VIII”, “Matériaux I”.
