Genre/Influences: Electro-Pop.

Format: Digital, CD.

Background/Info: “Sense For God” is a song taken from the last album “Host” by Janosch Moldau. This German Electro-Pop project has been busy for years now and is progressively getting a larger fanbase while this song entered the famous DAC.

Content: “Sense for God” was not directly my favorite song from “Host”, but the “Single”-edit however reminds us what this project stands for; Janosch Moldau is composing a deeply, melancholic Electro-Pop music. Forget any kind of ‘feel-good’ sensation as the music is driven by a lazy cadence and sad sounding, linear structures. The delicate timbre of voice accentuates the fragility of the work. The “Single”-version is followed by four remixes/edits featuring some clubby versions and even a rough kind of lounge edit.

+ + + : I’m often missing some power boost in the work of this artist. But an EP often is a perfect opportunity to experiment with other elements and that’s why I like both club-minded mixes (cf. “Adriatic Club Mix” and “No Yoga Mix”). It however remains a deeply melancholic and even depressed experience in Electro-Pop. This kind of music will not get you into a happy mood, but I can understand this project is getting more and more positive response to its sad resonating Electro-Pop.

– – – : I’m still not a huge fan of the title track, considering there are much better songs featured on “Host”.

Conclusion: Like it or not, but Janosch Moldau definitely has established a very own Electro-Pop sound.

Best songs: “Sense For God – Adriatic Club Mix”, “Sense For God – No Yoga Mix”, “Sense For God – Single”.

I have been working for over 30 years with Side-line as the main reviewer. My taste is eclectic, uncoventional and I prefer to look for the pearls, even if the bands are completely unknown, thus staying loyal to the Side-Line philosophy of nurturing new talents.

Since you’re here …

… we have a small favour to ask. More people are reading Side-Line Magazine than ever but advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news organisations, we haven’t put up a paywall – we want to keep our journalism as open as we can - and we refuse to add annoying advertising. So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

Side-Line’s independent journalism takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. But we do it because we want to push the artists we like and who are equally fighting to survive.

If everyone who reads our reporting, who likes it, helps fund it, our future would be much more secure. For as little as 5 US$, you can support Side-Line Magazine – and it only takes a minute. Thank you.
