Genre/Influences: EBM, Techno-Body.

Format: Digital.

Background/Info: Brazilian EBM veterans Fabricio Viscardi and Guilherme Peres strike back with a new EP of their sonic brainchild Aesthetische. While their last year revisited some older songs with the “MMXX”-EP they now deliver four new pieces plus two remixes.

Content: I should say “Overflow” brings us back to good-old EBM influences this formation has always dealt with. The solid structures and dry bass lines have been mixed with Techno elements while carried by strong choruses. One of the songs is featuring female guest singer Tina Forlorn (Sorrow Stories). On “Mad Denial” Aesthetische used spoken samplings instead of real vocals. Two songs have been remixed by Aesthetische themselves.

+ + + : Aesthetische is a band that has never disappointed me. But this new EP is a true masterpiece of EBM. The compositions are sophisticated, mixing irresistible EBM elements –like the Nitzer Ebb-driven bass line at “Mad Denial”, together with carrying choruses –especially at “These Bright Sparks”. There also is a kind of raw Body-Pop touch running through “This Darkness” featuring Tina Forlorn. The remix of this song reminds me a bit of Ayria. Globally speaking I’m still addicted to the mix of retro elements together with a fresh and contemporary Techno touch.

– – – : The last song (cf. “Secluded”) sounds like a less inspired song. But the main thing I’m missing is a true Club-hit.

Conclusion: If this EP is meant as an appetizer to welcome a new album, then it can only become a smasher!

Best songs: “Mad Denial”, “These Bright Sparks”, “This Darkness feat. Tina Forlorn”.

Rate: (8).

Inferno Sound Diaries
I have been working for over 30 years with Side-line as the main reviewer. My taste is eclectic, uncoventional and I prefer to look for the pearls, even if the bands are completely unknown, thus staying loyal to the Side-Line philosophy of nurturing new talents.

Since you’re here …

… we have a small favour to ask. More people are reading Side-Line Magazine than ever but advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news organisations, we haven’t put up a paywall – we want to keep our journalism as open as we can - and we refuse to add annoying advertising. So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

Side-Line’s independent journalism takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. But we do it because we want to push the artists we like and who are equally fighting to survive.

If everyone who reads our reporting, who likes it, helps fund it, our future would be much more secure. For as little as 5 US$, you can support Side-Line Magazine – and it only takes a minute. Thank you.
