Krzywdy – Czary (Album – Zoharum)
Genre/Influences: Dark-Ambient, Ritual, Ethnical, Neo-Folk.
Format: Digital, CD.
Background/Info: Krzywdy is a Polish project and also one of the newest signings by Zoharum. The debut album “Czary” is inspired by Scandinavian Folk.
Content: “Czary” is a true fusion between multiple-, but related influences. There’s a strong Ambient side running through the album, which is progressively joined by Ritual and Ethnic elements clearly reminding me of Scandinavian Folk and inspired by the mythology from the North. From pure Dark-Ambient constructions towards Neo-Folk guitar playing to Ritual voices, the work is dark and anguishing. Percussion accentuates the Ritual side at the end of the album while ghost-like voices only increase the visual strength of the work.
+ + + : It’s hard to define the genre of this album, which more appears to be a mix of influences, which have been meticulously assembled. The artwork of the album clearly indicates the Ritual and ‘Nordic’ inspiration of the work, which is exposed by brilliant songs like “Mędrca Słowa II” and “Wichry Skalne”. The opening cut is another piece I recommend for the slow progression while the final cut “Ragnarok” is an exciting apotheosis. The mystic side of the work has been empowered by great chants and half-spoken vocals.
– – – : I regret the work only features 5 cuts for 44 minutes of music.
Conclusion: Krzywdy is a promising addition to the growing Zoharum roster and will definitely please lovers of accomplished Dark-Ambient and Ritual music.
Best songs: “Mędrca Słowa II”, “Ginnungagap”, “Wichry Skalne”, “Ragnarok”.
