Genre/Influences: Electro-Pop.

Format: Digital, CD.

Background/Info: Perpacity is a duo featuring Martin Nyrup (Denmark) and Ian Harling (Germany). They have already been busy for several years now and have previously released three albums plus multiple singles. “Conflagration” is their first album released on ScentAir and features twelve songs.

Content: I wasn’t familiar with the work of this band and discovered a melancholic orientated Electro-Pop style. Several songs have something dreamy-like, but often accomplished with some darker spheres on top. One of the songs features female backing vocals. The songs are Electronic, but I also noticed a few guitar playing/sounds.

+ + + : “Conflagration” is an album full of prosperity. It’s an easy and relaxing listening revealing delicate song writing. It’s the perfect work to dream away and relax, but I like the melancholic touch, which appears to be a kind of red thread during the entire listening. One of the most atypical songs is “This Emptiness Of Mine”. You hear explicit guitar playing, which injects an extra dimension to the song. Last, but not least I like the sober, but cool artwork of the album.

– – – : Despite of the relaxing effect, a real climax is missing (maybe expect the previously mentioned “This Emptiness Of Mine”). The album starts to become a little less monotonous after a while.

Conclusion: Perpacity has been introduced as an experienced duo, but their work is missing a bit of energy and passion.

Best songs: “This Emptiness Of Mine”, “You Said”, “In Those Eyes”, “The Dark To Come”.

I have been working for over 30 years with Side-line as the main reviewer. My taste is eclectic, uncoventional and I prefer to look for the pearls, even if the bands are completely unknown, thus staying loyal to the Side-Line philosophy of nurturing new talents.

Since you’re here …

… we have a small favour to ask. More people are reading Side-Line Magazine than ever but advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news organisations, we haven’t put up a paywall – we want to keep our journalism as open as we can - and we refuse to add annoying advertising. So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

Side-Line’s independent journalism takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. But we do it because we want to push the artists we like and who are equally fighting to survive.

If everyone who reads our reporting, who likes it, helps fund it, our future would be much more secure. For as little as 5 US$, you can support Side-Line Magazine – and it only takes a minute. Thank you.
