Genre/Influences: Electro-Pop.

Format: Digital, CD.

Background/Info: “Violent Violet” is album number six for the German band Kasper Hate. Notice by the way all of the albums have been released on the Russian label ScentAir.

Content: Kasper Hate’s sound is always driven by Electro-Pop, but each work has its particularity. Some albums were more into a mix with EBM while the previous opus had something Experimental. The new stuff is already a different voyage although Pop minded. The work takes off with a rather sweet and soft song and progressively evolves towards more minimal-like compositions. But the main characteristic of “Violent Violet” is its diversity. You’ll discover songs with broken rhythms and other ones driven by very slow rhythms. The second part of the work is more elaborated and definitely hiding the best songs. Kasper Hate here achieved a song with a carrying melody line (cf. “Succus”), which is an instrumental song and another piece (cf. “Culpa”) driven by a mysterious sphere.

+ + + : Kasper Hate is exploring different Electro-Pop paths at “Violent Violet”. I like the Minimalistic parts and the title song is a real cool example in the genre. The aforementioned instrumental “Succus” is the absolute highlight for its sophisticated writing mixed with melodic sequences and danceable vibes. “Culpa” is another attention grabber confirming the album’s diversity. Kasper Hate however has developed a very own approach in sound, which can be clearly defined as unique Electro-Pop.

– – – : What I’m mainly missing on the Kasper Hate albums are a few little details in the production, which can push this band to a higher level. There’s no real potential hit although there are a few cool songs.

Conclusion: Kasper Hate moves on dealing with a different Electro-Pop style, which is not always easy to define although easy to consume!

Best songs: “Succus”, “Culpa”, “Violent Violet”, “Fairway”.

Rate: (7½).

I have been working for over 30 years with Side-line as the main reviewer. My taste is eclectic, uncoventional and I prefer to look for the pearls, even if the bands are completely unknown, thus staying loyal to the Side-Line philosophy of nurturing new talents.

Since you’re here …

… we have a small favour to ask. More people are reading Side-Line Magazine than ever but advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news organisations, we haven’t put up a paywall – we want to keep our journalism as open as we can - and we refuse to add annoying advertising. So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

Side-Line’s independent journalism takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. But we do it because we want to push the artists we like and who are equally fighting to survive.

If everyone who reads our reporting, who likes it, helps fund it, our future would be much more secure. For as little as 5 US$, you can support Side-Line Magazine – and it only takes a minute. Thank you.
