Genre/Influences: Electro-pop.

Format: Digital.

Background/Info: This is the fifth full length album from Swedish musician Erik Lindestad as The Land Below. The work features ten songs.

Content: The Land Below takes us away on an electro-pop trip, which is mainly characterized by the artist’s high timbre of voice together with sweet and ambient/space-like electro-pop music. All songs have a relaxing and dreamy sensation. I noticed a few cuts carried by deeper bass lines while the last song is a pure ballad styled composition played with guitar.

+ + + : “The Sleep You Lost” is the right work to take a break and relax; it’s a perfect cure to recover from stress and all kinds of daily troubles. The songs are an invitation to dream away and imagine living in a peaceful world. That’s why I’m not surprised this artist already wrote some soundtrack music. This is the kind of work accessible for a wider and less underground-minded audience. That’s probably why I prefer a song as “Through The Fire Into You” for its deeper sounding bass line.

– – – : The Land Below sounds sweet like sugar, but too much of that has a rather soporific effect on me. Most of the songs are too mealy.

Conclusion: This is electro-pop music with some extra ambient/dreamy touch on top; music without pretension to bring people moments of Zen.

Best songs: “Through The Fire Into You”, “Empty”.

Rate: (6).

I have been working for over 30 years with Side-line as the main reviewer. My taste is eclectic, uncoventional and I prefer to look for the pearls, even if the bands are completely unknown, thus staying loyal to the Side-Line philosophy of nurturing new talents.

Since you’re here …

… we have a small favour to ask. More people are reading Side-Line Magazine than ever but advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news organisations, we haven’t put up a paywall – we want to keep our journalism as open as we can - and we refuse to add annoying advertising. So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

Side-Line’s independent journalism takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. But we do it because we want to push the artists we like and who are equally fighting to survive.

If everyone who reads our reporting, who likes it, helps fund it, our future would be much more secure. For as little as 5 US$, you can support Side-Line Magazine – and it only takes a minute. Thank you.
