Solar Fake – Who Cares, It’s Live (Album – Out Of Line)

Background/Info: Set up in 2007 by Zeraphine and Dreadful Shadows member Sven Friedrich and joined by André Feller, Solar Fake has released a few noticeable albums and EP’s so far. Especially the last studio opus “You Win, who Cares?” got a lot of positive reactions leading the band to tour abroad. This release is getting the fans back to 2018 and a show they played in Leipzig (Germany). The CD features twenty five songs while the DVD is much shorter plus with some extras like interviews with fans.
Content: This is a live production and you can hear it. There’s a noticeable interaction with the fans, but you can still hear the vocals, which sounds live and somewhat different from the studio recordings. The album brings a fine selection of songs from the latest album together with ‘older’ songs. They also played the famous cover song “Papillon” from Editors. Sound-wise the songs are covering electro/future-pop influences and some harder EBM parts.
+ + + : This is the kind of record that will ravish the fans of the band and especially those who assisted to the concert recorded in Leipzig. I personally prefer Solar Fake for their harder side revealed in songs such as “Invisible” and “Here I Stand”. “I Hate You More Than My Life” is another great song. If you’re more into melancholia I especially recommend “The Pain That Kills You Too”. Solar Fake has a nose to compose elevating choruses, which especially during live shows are leading the audience into ecstasy. Last, but not least you can clearly notice the sacred union between the band and the audience.
– – – : Solar Fake already released an acoustic live album and now we get a ‘regular’ live production. There’s nothing wrong with this, but I hope there won’t be a new live concept within a few years. I’m sometimes missing a bit more passion in the vocals.
Conclusion: This is the right opus for the fans of Solar Fake while I would not recommend this production if you never heard of Solar Fake before.
Best songs: “Invisible”, “More Than This”, “Stay”, “Papillon”, “Here I Stand”.
