Genre/Influences: Experimental-pop, minimal-electronics.

Format: Digital, CD.

Background/Info: I never heard of this Polish project before. Xdzvonx seems to have released a first album “Tape_01” in 2018 and are now back on track with this self-released album featuring fourteen songs.

Content: This band deals with a minimal- and experimental electronic format. It has a touch of electro-pop music, but the minimalism of the sound treatments and the experimental production of the vocals makes the sound very special. The female vocals are often used as a kind of effect. A few other songs reveal English lyrics and a now sensual and then enraged timbre of voice. There also is one song with male vocals in a kind of rap style. The final part of the album also reveals a harder and even punkish song, which also is one of the best cuts.

+ + + : Xdzvonx created an original sound, which is hard to define, but definitely minimal-minded. The vocals are very particular as well, but next to the way they’ve been produced the singer is also a talented artist. She sings passionately, but still in a sensual modus while her timbre of voice is rather high. The music is simple, but efficient, sometimes achieved with bleeping sequences and a harder kick. The punkish song “I Will Vomit Glitter” is not totally representative of this work although it’s a great cut.

– – – : The single aspect that hurts me is the rather abrupt end of most of the songs. Most of the tracks are also pretty short, but that’s not really a point as the album features 14 tracks. Another minus point is the rather poorly inspired artwork of the CD format.

Conclusion: Xdzvonx took me by surprise; this band is a real sensation composing original and very efficient music. This band gets my full support!

Best songs: “I Will Vomit Glitter”, “Playground”, “Pray”, “Bubbles”, “You Have To Be Alone”, “No Eyes”.

Rate: (8).

Inferno Sound Diaries
I have been working for over 30 years with Side-line as the main reviewer. My taste is eclectic, uncoventional and I prefer to look for the pearls, even if the bands are completely unknown, thus staying loyal to the Side-Line philosophy of nurturing new talents.

Since you’re here …

… we have a small favour to ask. More people are reading Side-Line Magazine than ever but advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news organisations, we haven’t put up a paywall – we want to keep our journalism as open as we can - and we refuse to add annoying advertising. So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

Side-Line’s independent journalism takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. But we do it because we want to push the artists we like and who are equally fighting to survive.

If everyone who reads our reporting, who likes it, helps fund it, our future would be much more secure. For as little as 5 US$, you can support Side-Line Magazine – and it only takes a minute. Thank you.
