V:XII – Rom, Rune And Ruin / The Odium Disciplina (Album – Aesthetic Death Records)
Genre/Influences: Power-electronics, drone, dark-ambient.
Format: Digital, CD.
Background/Info: V:XII is a new project by Daniel Jansson (Deadwood, Morn, Blodulv, S.T.U.G. 218 ao). I didn’t find any additional info about this debut album featuring eight tracks.
Content: V:XII creates a heavy fusion between different styles like death-industrial, power-electronics, drone and dark-ambient. Deep growls are emerging from a disturbing, obscure creation. But you’ll also find softer cuts with buzzing passages and spoken words. The metal side of the artist is not far away, adding an extra doom-like touch to the work.
+ + + : The main strength of this work is its disturbing side, which mainly emerges at both debut tracks and “B.A.H.F.”. It’s an element, which is also reflected in the lyrical content of the work. V:XII is a devilish experience; the creation of an evil force transposed into a musician. Daniel Jansson appears like the upper priest of a dark mass, an obscure rite for abandoned souls. The album also has an apocalyptic touch so in the end nothing will make you feel good and yet fans of the genre will be happy enjoying this particular experience in sound. I also have to say a word about the great artistic artwork of the CD.
– – – : Some passages and especially the production of the vocals is a little bit repetitive, but the main thing this album is missing is a climax.
Conclusion: V:XII is a work appealing for all lovers of extreme music!
Best songs: “B.A.H.F.”, “The New Black”, “Madr”.

… we have a small favour to ask. More people are reading Side-Line Magazine than ever but advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news organisations, we haven’t put up a paywall – we want to keep our journalism as open as we can - and we refuse to add annoying advertising. So you can see why we need to ask for your help.
Side-Line’s independent journalism takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. But we do it because we want to push the artists we like and who are equally fighting to survive.
If everyone who reads our reporting, who likes it, helps fund it, our future would be much more secure. For as little as 5 US$, you can support Side-Line Magazine – and it only takes a minute. Thank you.
