Genre/Influences: Indie-pop-rock.

Format: Digital, CD, Vinyl.

Background/Info: Italian formation Talk To Her saw the light of day in 2015. The band seems to have gained some recognition in its homeland while the debut EP “Home” (2018) was a successful work. “Love Will Come Again” is the band’s debut full length released again on Shyrec, but now also available on Icy Cold Records.

Content: The album sounds like the continuation to “Home”. Even if the band’s claims to be inspired by post-punk, the main influences emerging at the surface are clearly indie-like. The songs reveal a perfect twist between pop and rock music. The guitar has for sure a 80s touch on top, but mainly creates the rock side of the work while the melodic element the songs have been achieved with has something more pop driven. I can’t really compare Talk To Her with another formation, but they somewhere make me think to Editors.

+ + + : Talk To her confirms the strong potential revealed at “Home”. I like the fact this album contains only new songs, which makes the “Home”-EP a bit more special. The songs are once again carried by impressive guitar playing, which literally makes the spirit of this band. Call it post-punk or indie-pop, it doesn’t’ really care! “Love Will Come Again” has something authentic; the songs are mixing retro elements with something more personal resulting in multiple great songs. “Away/Afraid” however is the masterpiece of the album. This song has something more 80s like, but still maintains the indie touch of this band. Other attention grabbers are “Ibisco” and “Hollow”.

– – – : I don’t have major minus points about this album, but I get the feeling this band is even able to do better.

Conclusion: Talk To Her has the potential to become something ‘big’. This debut full length is more than a successful and accomplished beginning!

Best songs: “Away/Afraid”, “Ibisco”, “Truth”, “Hollow”.

I have been working for over 30 years with Side-line as the main reviewer. My taste is eclectic, uncoventional and I prefer to look for the pearls, even if the bands are completely unknown, thus staying loyal to the Side-Line philosophy of nurturing new talents.

Since you’re here …

… we have a small favour to ask. More people are reading Side-Line Magazine than ever but advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news organisations, we haven’t put up a paywall – we want to keep our journalism as open as we can - and we refuse to add annoying advertising. So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

Side-Line’s independent journalism takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. But we do it because we want to push the artists we like and who are equally fighting to survive.

If everyone who reads our reporting, who likes it, helps fund it, our future would be much more secure. For as little as 5 US$, you can support Side-Line Magazine – and it only takes a minute. Thank you.
