P.C.N. Ambiloco – Spontaneous Simplitude (Album – P.C.N. Ambiloco)
Genre/Influences: Experimental, ambient.
Format: Digital, vinyl (2xLP).
Background/Info: P.C.N. Ambiloco is a German solo-project from M ünich driven by Christian Nothaft.
Content: It’s pretty hard defining the sound of this musician, but the work is clearly inspired by different influences. There’s an ambient input, which comes back over the entire album. It has been now accentuated by noisy arrangements while most of the tracks are featuring guitar parts. And here again the guitar playing is experimental, sometimes joined by a slow cadence. The tracks are instrumentals by the exception of the last cut featuring German spoken words.
+ + + : The main strength of the work is the diversity and some of the minimalistic passages. I refer to “I’m Gonna Dig My Hole Deeper”, which sounds more into electronics, but also reveals a real potential. Another interesting cut is the very experimental driven “Distruction”. I also have to say a word about the great artwork of the vinyl edit.
– – – : Diversity is cool, but I however miss some coherence between the songs. This album also remains a very experimental experience, which I’m afraid will only catch the attention of a restricted number of music lovers.
Conclusion: Experimental releases often stand for visionary artists, but I’m missing some avant-garde approach here!
Best songs: “I’m Gonna Dig My Hole Deeper”, “Distruction”.
