Fractal Age – Modern World (Album – Scanner / Dark Dimensions)
Genre/Influences: Electro-pop, wave-pop.
Format: Digital, CD.
Background/Info: Fractal Age is a new German formation set up by ex-reAdjust-member Markus (programming & keys), Jens of Chainreactor (programming) and Sascha (vocals).
Content: I didn’t know what to expect from this trio, but I probably expected something different because of Jens’ from Chainreactor involvement. Fractal Age is not a new sonic ogre, but sounds more inspired by electro-pop formats. It’s a kind of power-pop composition featuring wafting, melodic leads, hopping rhythms and a flavor of melancholia. The title song has been remixes by Chainreactor.
+ + + : If “Modern World” has something pretty electro-pop like it clearly appears to be a unique format revealing songs supported with a dark and melancholic sphere. The work is powerful, but remains melodic through the use of classical leads. “Apart” is a brilliant song resulting in a truly climax thanks to a great melody line. I also have to mention “Glimpses Of Reliance”, which is another major song.
– – – : Fractal Age has accomplished a noticeable debut, but maybe has to inject a little bit more diversity in its future compositions.
Conclusion: I can’t say this album is an absolute must have, but it’s a cool and excellent debut. So I’m really looking forward to see how this new project will evolve.
Best songs: “Apart”, “Glimpses Of Reliance”, “The Credits Of My Life”, “Red”, “Someday”.
