Distortion Six – Norze (Digital Album – Ant-Zen)
Genre/Influences: Industrial, power-noise, industrial-techno.
Background/Info: Norwegian sonic terrorist Nichlas Schermann is back on track with his newest album entitled “Norze”. A few tracks have been accomplished by the help of guests Exome and Christoffer Skogen.
Content: “Norze” moves on where the previous albums stopped; a continuation of harsh industrial and power-noise with a dark industrial-techno touch on top. There’s a slow progression in the tracklist, which takes off a rather industrial/power-noise way and moves on into hard-banging industrial-techno. The input of Lorenzo Arcari aka Exome is quite important as he got featured on 4 songs; mainly the songs with heavy, distorted vocals.
+ + + : Distortion Six remains one of those artist holding on the power-noise style, but I like the way he mixes it with good-old industrial elements and techno structures. The industrial-techno tracks, which are mainly appearing at the second part of the work are my favorite ones. It sounds rough, unpolished, a bit transcendental and definitely the right stuff to get dancefloors on fire. The addition of enraged vocal parts on a few cuts is more than simply a little bonus; it rocks!
– – – : Some songs from the first part of the work can’t totally convince me for being a bit too stereotypical and old-styled.
Conclusion: Distortion Six is a project bringing the best of power-noise together with industrial-techno; it feels like a sonic bridge and –bomb between the past and the present.
Best songs: “Ritual feat. Exome & Christoffer Skogen”, “ Paranoid feat. Exome”, “Boneless”, “Neck feat. Exome”, “Witcher feat. Exome”.
